Job seeking after the career fair — Joyce’s Career Tip of the Week

A recruiter and student talk at the Polytechnic campus Fulton Schools Career Fair

The Fulton Schools Spring Career Fair is history. That does not mean recruiting season is over!

Employers have posted and are continuing to post opportunities for internships and jobs on Handshake. If you have not yet secured a position, be sure that you are checking at least once a week. Use the “Career Interest” section to set up filters based on your preferences. This will enable Handshake to alert you about positions that match your selected criteria.

Some employers who attended the career fair will be conducting interviews in upcoming weeks. Not all employers seeking ASU students choose to attend career fairs. Some will post positions on Handshake and select candidates for interviews.

When applying for positions though Handshake, pay attention to the details about the position – duties and job requirements – and tailor your application materials appropriately. Follow directions – especially, if the posting also requests you to apply on the company website.

Make sure that your profile is updated and complete, and that your resume is current. Double check that you have made your resume visible to employers.

Be aware of application deadlines. Set filters in “Notifications” so you will receive reminders that will help you keep track of events and interviews.

If you have questions about how to follow up from the career fair, would like to get feedback on your resumes, or have questions about applying for positions through Handshake, schedule an appointment with one of the Fulton Schools of Engineering peer career coaches through Handshake. Click on the “Career Center” tab and then on “Appointments”.

The Fulton Schools peer career coaches are well trained and available to help you!
