Fall break — Joyce’s Career Tip of the Week

Things really start to get busy in the middle of the semester. Fulton Schools students are busy studying for and taking midterms. For many of you, the upcoming long weekend from October 7–10, 2017 will probably be a time to catch up on sleep. Hopefully, you will find some time to relax and have fun in addition to organizing and working on upcoming academic assignments.

Thinking about summer internships and employment after graduation probably seems so far away when you are facing multiple deadlines within the next few weeks. I understand that! However, I would be remiss if I didn’t make a few suggestions to keep you on track with career planning activities.

Over the long weekend, when you are better rested and less stressed, take a bit of time to think about a few points. As you are progressing in your program, what are you enjoying the most? Have you found opportunities to apply your learning – student organizations, competitions or independent projects? Is your professional network growing? Are you able to identify and articulate the kind of work you would like to do? Are you working a plan to develop and improve the interpersonal competencies necessary for career success?

Peer career coaches are trained and available to show you resources as well as help you create and work your plan. You can make an appointment with them through Handshake.

All of us at the Fulton Schools Career Center are wishing you success on your mid-terms and a reenergizing fall break!
