Planning ahead — Joyce’s Career Tip of the Week

Continuing the countdown to the Fulton Schools Career Fair – we are now three weeks away! You want to maximize the amount of time you will have for talking to employers, and you want to be relaxed and confident. Planning ahead — by taking care of details and adapting your schedule — will certainly help!

It’s time to think about professional attire, especially if you need to do some shopping.

Think about your outfit: Does your suit or blouse need to be cleaned?

You might need to dress for an interview the day after the career fair. Have an extra shirt or blouse so that you’re not doing laundry the night before.

Do you have appropriate shoes? Men should be prepared with dress shoes and dress socks. Women can wear pumps — either flat or heels, but no higher than three inches.

Remember to schedule time for a visit to the barber or hair salon so you look sharp.

Do you have a “padfolio” for carrying copies of your résumé and company information?

Finally, plan ahead to see if you can rearrange your schedule during career fair days. Is it possible to change hours at your job if you ask in advance? Do you have commitments that can be rescheduled so that you can have more time to meet with employers?

Be sure to keep a close eye on tests, class assignments and due dates. Are you able to do extra work in advance to lighten the load during career fair week?

Thinking about these details now will help you be prepared for the Fulton Schools Career Fair, February 20–22, 2018.
