Handshake and LinkedIn can help you — Joyce’s Career Tip of the Week

Approaching the end of the semester is always a busy time of the year for Fulton Schools students. There are projects, tests and presentations. Final exams are only a few weeks away and life might get stressful. If you have not yet secured a job after graduation or a summer internship, spending time on a job search could be overwhelming.

These are the weeks that certainly test your time management skills. You will be prioritizing and re-prioritizing, creating and following schedules in order to complete assignments and meet deadlines. If you have complete profiles in Handshake and LinkedIn, and, have set the job search filters in Handshake, you can keep your job search going over the next few weeks with minimal time and effort. The completed profiles make it easy for recruiters to find you. Setting the filters in Handshake will make sure that you are notified by email when a job matching your preferences is posted.

Granted, you might be so busy that you just cannot apply at this time. Or, by applying to a position that matches your preferences, you could find that the application is relatively easy (because your résumé fits what the position requires). By letting Handshake and LinkedIn do some of the work for you, it could be possible to find and apply to opportunities — even during this very busy time of the semester.
