The Society of Women Engineers has recognized Elizabeth Jones of Arizona State University for her impact on the Society as well as the engineering community with the SWE Outstanding Collegiate Member Award.
Jones will accept the award at SWE’s annual conference, WE20, which will be held virtually from Tuesday, November 3–Saturday, November 14, 2020.
The SWE Outstanding Collegiate Member Award recognizes Jones for her outstanding contribution to SWE, the engineering community and her campus. She is being recognized for impressive academic drive; for tireless outreach; and for mentoring and fostering a sense of empowerment and belonging among women engineers, well beyond the classroom. She has served as president for the SWE ASU section and aided in growth and retention efforts. Her involvement in the section helped the organization grow by 86% in the 2019–2020 academic year and has helped more members to grow their engineering identities at ASU.
“Diversity in engineering is a cornerstone of my identity as an engineer. It is an honor to be a part of a platform within SWE that allows me to use my time, skills and voice to advocate for inclusion in engineering. I am so excited to be accepting this award and am humbled to be a part of such a progressive and expanding section here at ASU” said Jones.
The award also recognizes Jones’s continuing dedication to SWE’s mission — striving to highlight the impact and importance of women in engineering across the globe, leading by example and demonstrating that a career in engineering can be a fulfilling and rewarding pursuit for women of any background.
