Work on InnovationSpace projects in three Spring 2022 courses

InnovationSpace is a transformative experience, where students in all majors build the skills of the future and develop their capacity for collaboration and innovation as they produce extraordinary projects. They are looking for passionate, motivated students in all majors who want to do work that matters. This spring semester InnovationSpace has four projects going in three different classes — is one the project you are looking for to make a difference?

Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply to InnovationSpace and indicate interest in the following Spring 2022 projects.

Air quality: Putting data and technology to use for community health
Spring 2022: Mondays 12:15–3:15 p.m.

Poor air quality is a major health issue in vulnerable communities. In this course, students will have the opportunity to investigate how we can use raw air quality data currently being collected in South Phoenix, and turn that into information, tools, products and policy that will protect residents’ health. Student ideas might include wearables, interactive maps or dashboards, data visualizations, apps or other tools, and business models that can support them,
to support community health in South Phoenix.

Dendrites: Bringing a new technology to life, and to market
Spring 2022: Mondays 12:15–3:15 p.m.

In this course, students will research and develop applications, tools and business models for a brand-new technology from one of the leading scientists at the Fulton Schools. Dendrites are unique identifiers with the potential to transform industries and authenticate provenance and purity of products in food and agriculture, fashion and fabrics, among others. If you are interested in business, technology or design, this is an opportunity to investigate potential markets, supply chains, tools and devices and the human systems that affect our global systems.

STEAMtank: Build a STEAM museum that connects young minds to ASU research
Spring 2022: Wednesdays 9:30 a.m.–noon

Be a part of a student design team to create exhibits for the new STEAMtank museum at Novus. Students will imagine, research, brand, market, design and create an exhibit that teaches children about STEAM. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art + Math) For this exciting project, engineers, product designers, museum designers, education designers and marketing specialists will work together to create science exhibits in the STEAMtank — a dedicated exhibit space in the new Novus building.

C3: Developing a new policing approach that strengthens communities
Spring 2022: Tuesdays 4:15–6:45 p.m.

In this course, teams of students in Design, Business, and Criminal Justice will collaborate on the development of market solutions to improve policing in the United States utilizing newer models of increased community engagement. C3 stands for Counter Criminal Continuum, a policing approach developed by former Green Berets who pioneered using counter-terrorism techniques focused on strengthening communities. The results have been dramatic and successful, and our challenge is to enhance and scale this program.
