Honeywell Innovation Hub launches at ASU
Honeywell opened a new space, the Honeywell Innovation Hub, on Arizona State University’s Tempe campus in collaboration with the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering. The Fulton Schools and Honeywell are each focused on empowering students to develop key engineering skills and solve the aerospace industry’s most pressing challenges.
The new Honeywell Innovation Hub was unveiled in the existing Engineering Commons G-Wing building on ASU’s Tempe campus. Within the hub, ASU students can learn to use state-of-the-art technologies, participate in hackathons, attend workshops with Honeywell experts and visit a career center designed to link students directly into Honeywell’s professional network.
“Today’s students are the future of the aviation industry workforce,” says Jim Currier, president and CEO of Honeywell Aerospace Technologies. “We are thrilled Honeywell can help the next generation of engineers tackle the challenges ahead by providing them with a place to learn and grow. We look forward to the opportunities this space will create for collaboration, innovation and knowledge-sharing between Honeywell employees and ASU students within our local community.”
“Partnering with Honeywell represents an incredible opportunity to enhance the learning experience for ASU students,” says Kyle Squires, dean of the Fulton Schools and ASU’s senior vice provost for engineering, computing and technology. “By bridging academia and industry in this unique space, we empower our students to gain valuable real-world insights, explore leading technologies and make industry connections that will position them for successful careers in aerospace engineering and beyond.”
“This lab is a testament to and a catalyst for what we can achieve when academia and industry come together with a shared purpose,” says Sally Morton, executive vice president of ASU’s Knowledge Enterprise, we look forward to the discoveries and innovations that will emerge from this lab and to the positive impact that it will have on our community. This innovation hub will not only enhance our research capabilities, but will serve as an exemplar for what is possible when we unite our efforts toward a common goal.”
How can students get involved
- The Honeywell Innovation Hub will offer weekly tech talks with Honeywell engineering experts, beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024. Attendees will learn about the latest advancements in aerospace technologies, from avionics to propulsion and more.
- On Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024, the Honeywell Innovation Hub will host its first Honeywell Day from 8 a.m.–noon. The event will provide ASU students and faculty members the opportunity to hear from Honeywell’s industry-leading engineers and experts through interactive demonstrations and presentations while also speaking with them one-on-one via individual networking sessions.
- Students can also participate in the Devils Invent Hackathon on Friday through Sunday, Nov. 15–17, 2024. Over these three days, participants will form teams to brainstorm, design and prototype innovative technologies under the guidance of Honeywell and ASU mentors to win prizes.
- With new equipment provided by Honeywell, students will soon be able to leverage innovative technologies such as virtual and augmented reality headsets, as well as laser-cutting machines to complete complex projects.
