SEDS-ASU Rocketry Division dedicates rockets to veterans

Posted by on Nov 13, 2018 in Organizations and Teams |

This past summer the members of SEDS-ASU Rocketry Division were hard at work building a rocket for the annual Spaceport America Cup competition. This organization is a chapter of the international organization, Students for the Exploration and Development of Space or SEDS. This chapter was formed last February becoming an official Fulton Student Organization.

These students built a 10-foot rocket with more than 500 pounds of thrust to reach 10,000 feet in altitude and carry an 8.8-pound payload. With the help of a few industry sponsors as well as ASU’s very own KEEN Grant, the team was able to raise more than $15,000 to build the rocket and travel to New Mexico for the launch. The team also partnered with several non-profit veteran organizations including: Wings for Warriors, Team Overland and The Veterans Community Center. SEDS-ASU Rocketry Division advertised these organizations on their social media raising awareness for them as well as raising donations for their efforts.
