Welcome back and tips on how to prepare for our Virtual Career Fairs — Jessica’s Career Tip of the Week

Greetings and welcome back to another GREAT semester here at Fulton Schools of Engineering!  As we kick-off to Fall 2020, there are a few important tips that you will need to know about our upcoming Virtual Career Fairs this semester. Not only will I highlight important tips that will assist you with preparing for our Virtual Career Fairs, but I will also include when the Fairs will be held this semester.  Here are some tips that will assist you to prepare for our Virtual Career Fairs:

  • Resume Critique A well written resume is the first step to getting you noticed at the Virtual Career Fair! You will want to have one of our professional career development staff or peer career coaches review it to ensure you are including the right content that highlights your work experiences, academic projects and your technical skills. You can make a Zoom Appointment via Handshake or submit your resume through our Optimal Resume Platform.
  • Update Your Handshake Account The purpose of updating your Handshake account is threefold: 1) Getting you noticed by employers, 2) For networking purposes with employers and fellow students, and 3) Applying for internships and jobs. You will want to update your profile and make your profile public to employers so they can find you.
  • Search Career Fairs in Handshake This fall semester, all our Career Fairs will be virtual. You will be able to search the Career Fairs in Handshake. You will want to pay special attention when the Fulton Schools and ASU-wide Career Fairs are being held. You will be able to search for Fulton Schools by filtering the search. The Virtual Career Fairs will either take place on CareerEco, Handshake or other platforms. After creating an account in Career Eco, make sure to access the training videos and documents for assistance. Also, refer to this informative guide for assistance with the Handshake Platform.
  • Create Your CareerEco profile This will be another very important step! Employers will be able to view your CareerEco profile so make sure to create it as soon as you are able. Once you have created your profile, make sure to Follow all the CareerEco tips. And most importantly, upload your resume.
  • Research Companies That Are Attending It is of utmost importance to research the companies that are attending before you attend the Virtual Career Fairs. It will only make you look well-versed and enhance your candidacy out of the pool of applicants. Employers expect that you take the time to research them beforehand, and it will also enhance your knowledge base of that company as well.
  • Attend Employer Information Sessions This is another important activity that you should do beforehand in order to enhance your knowledge of the employers attending. Attending Employer Information Sessions will only set you apart because you will have done the preparation work that is needed prior to attending the Virtual Career Fairs. This will allow you to get a feel for the company culture and learn about the positions available at the company.
