Get involved in outreach with the Mentor Volunteer Program

Have extra time and want to give back to the community while making new friends on campus? Make a huge positive impact on some awesome middle school kids. The mentoring program at Gililland Middle School is going on its sixth year. Many kids in this Title I middle school face a lot of challenges and they just need someone to show they matter and have a bright future. You can be hands on and have a rewarding experience. You don’t need any prior experience, you change their lives by being there and just being you.

Some words from past ASU mentors

  • My experience as a mentor was one of the most rewarding experiences of my college career.
  • It served as a great way to have fun and destress from school. I was able to learn things along the way as well, such as goal-setting, patience, etc.
  • At the beginning, I felt as though I may not be making much of an impact or helping the kids, but I’ve learned along the way that the presence may be helpful in some way.

Last year this program was strictly online due to the pandemic. We are providing both in-person and online options to join for your comfort and the students.

The weekly mentor program will be every Tuesday from 3:30–4:30 p.m. Arizona time beginning Tuesday, August 24, 2021. You do not need to be in Arizona to be a part of it, you just have to adjust the time zone accordingly if you are joining online. If you are joining in person you will need to be wearing a face mask.
