Are you a current or incoming master’s degree or doctoral student at ASU interested in medical devices, implants, manufacturing or health-focused engineering? The NSF Research Traineeship, or NRT, in Medical Device Manufacturing and Design offers graduate students the opportunity to advance their research while receiving $35,900 per year in stipend support, full tuition coverage and access to distinct academic, clinical and industry experiences.

What you’ll gain as an NRT trainee

  • Conduct research alongside an ASU faculty advisor.
  • Learn from experts through interdisciplinary NRT courses and seminars.
  • Participate in a residency at Mayo Clinic.
  • Intern with the ASU Health Care Accelerator.
  • Build professional skills through workshops and mentorship.
  • Explore patenting and commercialization support.

Current or incoming master’s degree and doctoral students in:

  • Mechanical engineering
  • Chemical engineering
  • Biomedical engineering
  • Biological design
  • Computer science and engineering
  • Civil and environmental engineering
  • Materials science and engineering
  • Life sciences
  • Molecular sciences

Eligibility

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents to receive stipend and tuition support.
